Ivan Girard developed a sequence of design frames inspired by scenes from the film. I was one of the animators asked by Method Studios to seamlessly stitch together his frames and animate them to enhance their painterly feel. I was involved in the early concept/design phase to help establish the overall look of the package. Then I was tasked with designing a brand new insert system for Telemundo, as well as custom insert graphics specifically for the World Cup. For the overall package, colors and design elements were inspired by the Copa Mundial logo. Echoing rings were used as narrative elments to frame and highlight the most important pieces of information. This was purely a personal passion project that I used to explore and expand upon my motion design skills. I wanted to experiment with Fields in Cinema 4D, so I created this spec project to discover the cool things it can do. I came up with this very simple concept for Reef sandals, in which the sandals themselves are formed by coral reefs. Everything in the concept would take place underwater as if you were a diver witnessing the transformation of these sandals. This was also a great exercise for me to experiment more with Redshift and Xparticles. I used Redshift to render all of my 3D shots, and Xparticles to help create some flowy particle simulations. In addition, this was my first time using Adobe Audition, which proved insanely helpful in creating the soundscape I desired. The sound design attempt definitely lacks a professional's touch, but I was happy to have created something close to what I was imagining. Overall, this project served as an extremely helpful study as I continue to expand my skills in 3D. 2019 RoleDesign3D2D Compositing Edit Sound Design Credits Some quick shout outs: Nikola Damjanov, for his detailed Substance textures that were used and slightly altered. Thankfully, I came across some awesome Substance Desinger files created by Nikola Damjanov. I experimented with animated Vertex maps and Displacements using different kinds of Fields. I was tasked to design style frames for selected shots from their storyboards and envision how motion design could enhance the video from shot to shot. Highlights for me with this project include the transition from an overhead shot of Union Square into a credit card chip, the UI design of a futuristic medical tablet, and the design of a physical data sphere. surfing. When I am working, it’s hard for me not to peak at the surf conditions at my home break. This led me to create this passion project for myself. When watching the World Surf League coverage online one day, I said to myself, "It would be cool to create a new graphics package for these guys." So, that's what I ended up doing in my free time. I studied the masters of sports graphics packages and how they visually captured their audience. I observed how they laid out type and constructed their compositions to deliver information clearly. Next, I took note of the graphic elements used during one of the WSL surfing competition broadcasts. Then, I drew design inspiration from the OGs of surfing - the Polynesians. More specifically, I found their tattoos to be so interesting that I began sketching out frames using elements from their tribal artwork. From there I experimented in Photoshop and Cinema 4D, and created this speculative graphics package for the World Surf League. It was a great exercise for me to discover how I would approach this kind of project. All brand marks are the property of WSL and no affiliation has been made between them and myself.
